About Us

The Institute for Biological Medicine & Natural Concepts – IBMNC, was brought to life with the objective of satisfying a growing need for integrating biological medicine and natural concepts with conventional medicine. The strength of this approach lies in viewing the patient as a “whole”, taking into account external and as well as lifestyle factors when considering a patient’s treatment plan. IBMNC’s aim is to build relationships whilst promoting scientific research through a close cooperation with universities, clinics and health care providers.

In order to lay the foundations for an integrative medicine approach the IBMNC actively:

  • Works in close cooperation with universities to integrate new research into study programs
  • Organizes seminars, training and specialists events for professionals from the health sector
  • Connects professionals by building networks with the aim of promoting cooperation, clinical knowledge-sharing and how to put it into practice
  • Establishes partnerships with leading European laboratories in order to bring professionals with similar expertise together

Our Vision

Petra Potocnik, Dipl. Nutrionist

At the helm of world-known clinics, recognized worldwide for treating patients using an integrative approach, combining biological medicine and natural concepts with mainstream medicine, Petra Potocnik, a nutritionist and business entrepreneur, the founder of IBMNC, recognized the urgent need to bridge the gap between practical “savoir-faire” and scientific research.

Thanks to a growing interest in biological medicine and holistic approaches to the practice of medicine, considerable scientific research in this area has been carried out in recent decades. Research results are promising, showing that patients with serious or chronic disease have overall better treatment outcomes and a significant improvement in their quality of life, when using combined therapies that regard the patient as a holistic entity. IBMNC is about setting a roadmap to a better understanding of interdisciplinary therapeutic solutions.

“Despite the road ahead of us being a long one, with many milestones to be reached – I am convinced that we can change people’s lives by working together as a team with clinics, academia and health professionals. Essentially, IBMNC is about sharing our knowledge for the good of everyone” (Petra Potocnik).

In addition to connecting and promoting work and research within the medical sector- IBMNC also considers it has a responsibility in reaching out to the wider public interested in finding therapeutic solutions either for themselves or for their loved ones. Therefore, it also strives to serve as an educational platform regularly communicating new scientific findings and progressive medical practices to anyone who wishes to learn.

Why do Biological medicine & natural concepts matter?

Today, biological medicine and holistic medicine are at the forefront of health care provision and generate great interest within the scientific community. It is about taking the best from both worlds – the conventional meets complementary alternative and holistic medicine, in order to increase a patient’s recovery outcomes. The potential wide-reaching improvements to patient’s health and their benefits have been well documented in scientific literature.

So what do these approaches actually involve? Biological medicine, like holistic medicine, considers the person as an indivisible whole. The treatment focuses on finding and eliminating the causes which are at the root of a patient’s diagnosis. These causes can vary greatly from patient to patient, despite the similarities of the described health concerns.

In practice, biological medicine goes a step further by researching actual cellular processes, in determining where the harmony has been disrupted. The next stage of biological medicine aims at restoring these processes to regain and restore health through improved functioning of the body. To achieve this, primarily natural methods are used in the form of natural medicines, nutrients, dietary supplements, as well as a variety of therapies and, above all, lifestyle changes. Changes in lifestyle may presuppose adaptations to eating habits, increasing physical exercise and reducing exposure to environmental toxins. Toxins, intestinal health and immune system and lastly regeneration form the foundations of biological medicine.

Patients, in particular, those suffering from chronic health conditions will benefit from this holistic approach, with health professionals always keeping in sight the global picture and considering the body as a “whole”. Spending the necessary time discussing the patient’s medical history is all part of the process of uncovering the source of the health concern before actively treating and eliminating the disease.

The objective being to discover the original and underlying cause of an illness rather than simply reacting to symptoms or just containing the long-term decline of a patient.

This is particularly true for natural concept treatments which complement the healing process by encompassing diet, lifestyle and mind & body medicine. Before choosing your health practitioner it is worth considering the wide palette of natural specialized treatment options on offer. The possibilities are numerous encompassing naturopathic medicines, clinical nutrition, traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture but also focus on prevention of disease, including Lifestyle Counseling and Hygiene therapy just to mention some of the options on offer. Deeply anchored within this approach is a respect for the healing power of what nature has to offer. Natural concepts embrace various therapies including herbal, acupuncture, exercise and nutritional counseling.

It is not unusual for a practitioner to spend several hours with his patient going through their medical history, right back to birth, including any mental illness, nutritional information and discussing lifestyle habits before prescribing clinical exams. Treating the “whole” of the person implies that mind, body and spirit are taken into account when consulting with a patient in addition to focusing on disease prevention and promoting good health and general well-being.
